Operating on 9-hour or 12-hour shifts, you will work at the Tom Green County Detention Center providing direct supervision of offenders in housing, visitation, and recreation areas; escorting offenders within the Justice Center; and monitoring prisoner activity, using closed circuit television systems, radios, and intercom systems.
You will conduct cell searches, security checks, and inmate headcounts in accordance with department procedures and respond to emergencies within the jail such as physical altercations, fires, and offender disturbances.
You will also supervise inmate dining, complete booking and release records, and reports; photograph and fingerprint new offenders and send offender information to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Additionally, you will administer basic first aid and CPR, as needed.
You will operate a variety of equipment including computers, FAX and fingerprint devices, radios, intercom systems, central controls, telephones, and fire extinguishers.
About You High school diploma or GED 18
years of age Possess basic certification as a Corrections Officer from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or must acquire within one year of employment Must possess a valid Texas Driver's license Knowledge of corrections facility operations, department procedures and policies, first aid and CPR techniques Must not have any felony or class A convictions, class B convictions must be 10 years old or older.
Ability to provide offender supervision and security Ability to follow departmental policies and procedures and directives from supervisory staff Ability to make effective decisions in stressful situations with quick reaction Skilled in oral/written communication and interpersonal relations Must pass background screening, physical and psychological evaluation About the County Tom Green County, Texas, has a population of 120,003.
