Current vacancy is located in the County Attorney office and will be filled after August 1, 2023.
Under general supervision, provides support to the Victim/Witness Services Coordinator.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Serves as receptionist and greets visitors in a professional and service-oriented manner; answers the phone and directs call or takes accurate messages.
Provides general program and procedural information to victims and family members; notifies and/or advises victims of their rights under family violence laws; serves as liaison between staff attorneys and victims.
Performs routine research to answer inquiries, as necessary.
Receives, reads, and separates police reports according to arrest/non-arrest status.
Prepares victim correspondence.
Creates case jackets and files legal and related documents into them.
Accesses electronic databases to enter, store, and retrieve case, law enforcement, and court record information; generates statistical reports from the database.
Assists in the preparation of legal documents such as plea packets, motions, orders, dismissals, judgments and dispositions; assists in the preparation of emergency protective orders and affidavits; receives Motions to Revoke (MTR's) and enters pertinent information into computer; files appropriate documents with County Clerk's Office.
Receives court dockets, pulls appropriate files, and delivers files to staff attorney.
Attends court hearings, as assigned, to provide support and comfort to victims.
Provides information concerning social service and community agencies to victims, as appropriate.
Operates a variety of office equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machines, and shredders.
Notarizes legal and other documents, as needed.
Orders and maintains office and paper supplies; attends meetings and seminars; performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of legal terminology and forms; basic knowledge of court procedures; knowledge of data entry and database maintenance procedures; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.
Ability to organize, prioritize and perform work in a self-directed manner; ability to accurately maintain records and data; ability to prepare reports using basic mathematical calculations; ability to operate a personal computer and other office equipment; ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
Skill in oral/written communication and interpersonal relations.
Physical Requirements and Work Setting:
Works in a well-lighted, air-conditioned environment; prolonged periods of sitting and periodic walking, standing, bending, and reaching; occasional lifting up to 15 lbs; visual acuity, hearing ability, and manual dexterity required.
Education and/or Experience Required:
Two years of clerical, secretarial, or general office
Experience:
OR, one year of experience providing knowledge of legal documents and terminology; OR, completion of a recognized legal assistant training program may substitute for the required experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
Certification as a Notary Public by the Texas Secretary of State's Office is required in some positions.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
